Graduate Student Application and Instructions

Once you have begun the application, you must complete it. It is not possible to save it and return to it later. You can download a sample application, but you may not submit a paper application.

 

On Line Application

Be prepared to answer the following questions

  1. Full name, UIN, and preferred mailing address.

  2. Prior FLAS awards (number of academic year and summer; Center awarding).

  3. GRE scores and percentages, current degree program, program code, and year in program.

  4. Previous schools attended (up to 3): degree, date, and discipline.

  5. List of references.

  6. Language request and level (1st, 2nd yr, etc.)

  7. Summer Applications require the program name, location, contact information, and estimate of tuition and fees (DO NOT include room and board). If possible include the web address of your program.

Additional Supporting Materials

  1. Application Cover Sheet

  2. Three letters of recommendation: one MUST be from your academic advisor and, except for students applying for beginning language instruction, one must be from your most recent language instructor. (Download Recommendation Form.)

  3. Graduate and undergraduate transcripts (copies from your departmental file are acceptable).

  4. Statement of Purpose essay for each Center to which you are applying. Please note that each Center may have different requirements for the Statement of Purpose essay. Please check with the Center's web site for guidelines.

  5. Turn all supporting materials into your home department by their deadline.
