Instructions for Departmental Staff

These instructions are to aid academic departments in submitting GRADUATE STUDENT applications for FLAS fellowships to the National Resource Centers (NRCs) at Illinois. Questions regarding the application procedures and materials can be forwarded to any of the Centers or emailed to FLAS-Fellowships@illinois.edu. Download a copy of these instructions.

 

Departments are encouraged to set an international FLAS application deadline to ensure that there is ample time to compile and rank the applications before the submission deadline.

 

Departments wishing to use the FLAS fellowship to recruit an incoming student should indicate this clearly on the application cover sheet.

FLAS Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
    AND
  2. Currently enrolled as a graduate student OR admitted to the department's graduate program.

FLAS Application Submission Instructions

  1. Verify that the student is eligible for a FLAS fellowship (see above).

  2. Applications must be submitted by the department to the appropriate Center.

  3. Departments submitting more than one applicant MUST rank them.

  4. Applications are due to the Center(s) by 5:00 pm on Friday, 12 February 2009.

  5. Submit a complete set of supporting documents to each Center to which the student is applying (please refer to the checklist on the cover sheet for the required documents ).

  6. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  7. DO NOT STAPLE documents; secure each application with a paper clip or binder clip.
